The Ancient Woods – Woodland Walk

Our founder John Palmer took 4 years to hand build the boardwalks in the 1980s through the ancient woods so the public were able to wander through the woods at Porfell Wildlife Park and discover the wide variety of trees and plants. These natural old woods have fine examples of wetland coppice with willow and alder whilst the dry areas support ash, oak and beech. The specially built boardwalks will take you safely through the marsh areas of the woods. You are welcome to bring a picnic or simply rest awhile on one of the park benches and soak in the tranquillity of an untamed woodland. This is also home to bluebells which cover part of our woods

Unfortunately due to the damage due to our boardwalks over the years part of the woods is currently closed off to the public. We are currently raising money to help with the cost of materials to help us rebuild the old boardwalks. This will allow us to safely open the other part of our woods for the public to enjoy and in honour and memory of John Palmer. If you are able to support us please donate.

Very nice place to visit with a range of beautiful exotic animals: emu, zebra, lemurs, peacock, meerkat, reptiles, monkeys, parrots, owl and farm animals: chickens, donkey, sheep, ponies. The walk around took us around 2 hours. There is a picnic area too.
